Miniature Longhaired Dachshunds, mostly Creams and Black and Creams
“There’s nothing like a Cream!” My version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” song. My four-leggeds frequently hear their mom burst forth with her own lyrics to that tune.“Creams” (the non-fattening Miniature Dachshund kind) are my greatest joys. Soon after getting Wiggles, my first baby Dachshund, a chocolate and tan, I discovered the “Creams”. What heavenly, gorgeous dogs! Many people, with whom I come in contact, have never heard of them. I carry a picture of Waullker to “share” with nearly everyone I meet. The expressions and awe on people’s faces just tickle me. Yep, “Creams” are really special and oh, so beautiful.
Cream-colored Miniature Dachshunds were introduced into the U.S. by a Connecticut breeder in 1987. So, as of this writing, it has been less than 20 years. And it has just been within the last 4 or 5 years, that we have started seeing them on the West Coast. It is my greatest desire to breed for show-quality dogs that would also have wonderful temperaments. It’s quite a challenge, I realize, but something I really want to work toward accomplishing. Many, many hours have been spent reading and researching for information on raising and breeding these dogs. Two character traits that seem to be amazingly apparent in Dachshunds are their strong motivation to “please” and their unrelenting desire to give what are known as “Doxie Kisses.” (I have never been one to allow a dog to “kiss” my face, but to Dachshunds, it seems to be critically important!) Each dog is raised with daily individual cuddling, receives positive reinforcement for whatever deeds are well-done, and, upon passing the initial puppy-training stage, each is treated with respect. That “respect” idea may sound ridiculous, but it has proven to be a real bonus. “Thank you” seems to mean even more to them than “Good Doggie”.
All puppies are born “in house”, and are cuddled, loved and socialized with children, adults, and other Dachshunds. I am using several different methods to work toward developing the best temperaments possible. All puppies are AKC registered, and most are ready to go to new homes when 9 weeks old. They are sold without dewclaws, are vaccinated, wormed, micro-chipped, and come with a signed Health Certificate from their vet. Show/breeding puppies are sold with Full Registrations. Pet/companion puppies are sold with Limited Registrations, and these new owners are encouraged to spay/neuter their new puppies.
If you’ve read this far, and you’re new to the Dachshund World, welcome to a whole new, wonderful “world”. If you presently have (or have had) a Dachshund, you already know how special they are, and I send you “Doxie Kisses”!
